The Student's Scientific Olympiad

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH

 Introduction

 In order to encourage university students to undertake research projects and also to provide them with opportunities to promote their academic status, it was approved in 1995, that a nation-wide scientific student Olympiad be held annually.

The National Organisation for Educational Evaluation has been authorised to administer the Olympiads. The goal is to expand the domain of activities to include the talented youngsters from Islamic countries and the EGO members as well.

Academic Aims

 

- To locate gifted students in different academic fields.

- To direct the talents and to help them flourish.

- To motivate professors, administrators and program planners to re-examine the current educational programmes and to improve them

- To get access to objective and necessary information on the level and quality of university educational systems.

- To analyse the data in order to identify the factors influencing the quality of educational systems.

- To get the best possible advantages of the academic experiences of other countries.

- To utilise the experiences of advanced countries to help other countries to improve the duality of their educational systems

- To create an academic and research-oriented atmosphere among students from different countries.

- To persuade students to follow the best possible academic methods for the acquisition of knowledge.

Cultural Aims

 

- To expand friendship and brotherhood among neighbouring countries and as result among all nations over the world

- To create motivation for studying reflection and research in students.

- To create the feeling of co-operation in the acquisition of knowledge and to lead then to incorporate such feelings in their own countries.

- To motivate other countries to see promotion and expansion of science.

- To propagate appropriate culture and to pave the way for healthy competition.

 

Fields of Competition in Olympiad

The National Organisation for Educational

Evaluation of the Islamic Republic of IRAN

has made attempts to enlist other fields or

Science in its annual agenda.

The majors included so far are:

- Theological and Islamic teaching

- Persian Language and Literature

- Physics

- Chemistry

- Mathematics

- Electrical Engineering

- Civil Engineering

- Mechanical Engineering

- Medicine

Due to the importance of basic sciences, the expansion of the scope of the Olympiad and the inclusion of more areas, mathematics has been included, hoping that the students from Islamic countries and EGO member countries can also participate.

The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes all participants.

Qualifications for Foreign Participants in Mathematics Olympiad

- Foreign undergraduate students majoring in "pure or applied mathematics" can participate only in mathematics in this Olympiad provided that they have completed their junior courses in mathematics (pure and applied) and are

officially recommended by their respective governments.

- Each country can select and nominate five top qualified students and introduce them through the Office of International Scientific Co-operation of the Ministry of Higher Education in IRAN.

Note: The National Organisation for Educational Evaluator only undertakes the accommodating expenses.

 

Topics to be tested

- topics include the courses at the B.S. level of pure and applied mathematics.

- Foreign applicants can participant_ in both pure and applied fields.

- The Exam will be done in two parts:

A) General examinations

- Basic mathematics including:

1 -principles of mathematics

2-General mathematics

3-Differential equation

4-Statistics and probability

 

B) Specific examinations

[for applicants in pure mathematics 1 -Mathematical Analysis 2-Algebra 3-Linear Algebra

[For applicants in applied mathematics]

1 -Numerical Analysis 2-Operational Research

 

Examination Schedule

The Olympiad Examinations are usually held mid July every year. The exact exam time will be announced in due time.
