In a meeting with Friday prayer leaders from throughout the country, the Supreme Leader rejected the U.S. justification for its fighting against terrorism and said that the main goal behind the military action is hegemonism and expansion of domination over other parts of the world.
This is a reality that although other countries might keep silent in the short run, they will not bow to the U.S. policy in the long run, the Supreme Leader said.
"The United States is going to set a model in the world by taking military action against one country under the pretext of arresting several suspects. There have been notorious terrorists in different parts of the world, but when had such an action been taken in the past?" the Supreme Leader questioned.
They (the U.S. officials) have accused several people of involvement in the terrorist attacks in the U.S., the Leader said, adding that They acted like a judge and have taken military action against a country to carry out the sentence they issued on the suspects. They also have exposed the Afghan people to missile attacks and bombardment, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
"The U.S. officials have unjustified expectations from world peoples and said that whoever is not with us, is with the terrorists. But, the public opinion has reacted to these false and illogical words," the Supreme Leader said.
"The world community fairly condemned the terrorist attacks against the innocent people in the United States, but, the Americans deal with the issue in a way as if no such an event has ever happened elsewhere in the world," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Supreme Leader recalled a series of terrorist events in Iran including downing of an Iranian passenger plane over the Persian Gulf by the U.S. warship 'USS Vincennes' in 1988, explosion of the Islamic Republic Party headquarters in 1981 martyring 72 government officials and subsequent bomb blast at the presidential office martyring President Mohammad Rajaie and Prime Minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar. "It is for several decades that the Palestinian people have become the target of the Zionist regime's terrorist attacks. In Lebanon too, the Lebanese people have been the target of the terrorist attacks. Why the U.S. has not shown any reaction in the face of the terrorist attacks. Now the question is whether the Muslim World has the right to put a question mark before the U.S. military action against Afghanistan, the Supreme Leader said.
The Supreme Leader blamed the U.S. and the Zionist regime for the state of war in Afghanistan and the situation in the occupied Palestine and said that the United States should explain to the world peoples under which authority it has waged a war on Afghanistan, targeting the Afghan people with missiles and bombs and forcing the Afghan people to flee their homes.
"Who knows what is happening to the Afghan people right now? Which Muslim can see the plight of the Afghan people and overcome his emotion? Is it possible that the current situation in Afghanistan will not entail any opposition to the American military action?" the Leader questioned.
