Khatami urges worldwide cooperation to repel potential threats

 
     
 

  Tehran, Oct 18, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami here Thursday called on all countries, especially Muslim and regional states, to cooperate and repel threats internationally and particularly those to Muslim states.

      
 


    President Khatami in a meeting with the outgoing Tunisian Ambassador to Tehran Saeed Nasser Bin Ramazan deplored domination of the doctrine of reliance on force and war to solve problems in the world and stressed the need to change belligerent attitudes. 
    He said that on the one hand the attitude gives rise to the ``sinister and hateful'' phenomenon of terrorism and on the other hand introduces the military strategy as the first step to meet demands. He added that the result of the latter case is war and massacre of innocent people. 
    Khatami expressed concern over mischievous acts of certain groups who try to exploit the ongoing global conditions to wage clashes amongreligions and raise the issue of clashes among civilizations. 
    He said, ``the message of all divine religions is the message of God, mercy, affection and peace on the basis of justice.'' 
    The President said 113 out of 114 chapters in holy Quran begin with the phrase ``In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful'', pointing to the fact that Islam is oriented toward kindness, peace and affection. 
    He said Muslim states should be beside each other to defend their interests and cooperate with each other to present to mankind the kindof peace that is conceived with justice. 
    He added that Muslim states should campaign against terrorism, prevent resort to force for solving their problems and defend the rights of any group that is tyrannized in any part of the world especially the oppressed Palestinian people. 
    In response, Ramazan called relations between Iran and Tunisia as ``very good'' and stressed endeavors to consolidate the ties. 
    He touched on positive developments in Iran and called Iran's future to be ``positive and promising.'' He stressed Iran's key role in the region and in the Muslim world. 
    He termed Iran's stances toward global developments as ``wise' and said that his country believes Iran has an influential role in theevents with respect to its position, facilities and its civilization and history.
