Tehran, Jan 30, IRNA -- Iran's President Seyed Mohammad Khatami in remarks during his cabinet meeting responded to the US President George W. Bush's aggressive approach towards Iran during his first Congressional address.
President Khatami evaluated Bush's remarks as "intervening, warmongering, insulting, a repetition of his past propagation, and worse than all, truly insulting towards the Iranian nation."
Khatami added that the "great Iranian nation" will never yield to arrogant demands of the foreigners, although "we are against warmongering, and favor peace. A type of peace that is based on prevalence of justice for the whole mankind."
He reiterated, "our nation has proved it is ready to pay the needed cost for its independence, freedom and Islamic Republic."
President Khatami said, "what is of top importance is that adopting such aggressive moods merely leads to further unity and olidarity among the Iranian nation in their confrontation with those governments whose appetite will never be saturated and are always intending to intervene in others' affairs."
The president said, "Mr. Bush, the American President, has made certain remarks, which show he is not only unable to learn lessons form history, but is meanwhile after drawing a road-map for the future American policy-making that is far worse and less realistic than that country's past."
The Iranian president said, "the arrogant and intervening tone of President Bush in his recent remarks reminded everyone of the tone of the early American history politicians and he talked about the Iranian nation using truly insulting words."
He added, "Iran is both a victim of terrorism and a victim of chemical weapons, which were generously donated to our enemies by those who were after uprooting the Islamic Revolution."
President Khatami said, "unfortunately after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, when the world's public opinion was mobilized towards fight against international terrorism, that great and important opportunity was misused, while misusing such opportunities is doing injustice to the whole mankind."
He reiterated, "we wholeheartedly believe that the sad September 11 incidents were a big crime committed against humanity. "At the same time," the president said, "the role played by the wrong US policies and the inappropriate stands adopted by US politicians in the past in paving the ground for the September 11 attacks and the great losses it inflicted on the US nation should not be ignored either."
Khatami emphasized the American nation is a great nation that can play a decisive role in the process of global move towards peace and advancement, but it should first make clear that it does not favor those American politicians that in the name of peace propagate for war and bloodshed, and in the name of liberty bring forth tyranny and oppression.
Islamic Republic's president said, "we believe the American nation should ask their politicians to wash their hands off warmongering and mobilize all their capabilities and resorts in the service of the global peace process based on justice."
Khatami added, "today, America insists on supporting the (racist) Zionist regime that resorts to all types of crimes against the Palestinians that are the most oppressed, most innocent nation in the world and spares no efforts in doing so."
He added, "the American support for the Zionists is more evident and more effective than ever before in history today, while Israel does not even deal peacefully with the Palestinian Authority, that is its own peace partner."
Khatami further emphasized, "the world favors dialogue and firm logic today and such policies are doomed to failure."
The Iranian president said, "we hope for a comprehensive peace at global level in the future and the warm welcome rendered by intellectuals around the globe for the idea of Dialogue Among Civilizations is efficient proof for our claims when we say the path of mankind is in the opposite direction of that of the warmongers and the dictators."
