"As a well-wisher, I advise the White House masters to halt their adventurism in Afghanistan and not to go ahead with their attacks," hetold thousands of worshipers at the weekly Tehran Friday Prayer.
Rafsanjani, who is currently the head of Iran's arbitrative Expediency Council, meanwhile asked the U.S. authorities to leave the task of launching an international campaign against terrorism to the globally recognized United Nations.
"Americans must leave the task to the United Nations and act wisely according to a collective decision, and to cooperate in this regard with with the sincere nations accross the globe," he said.
Such a plea has already been made by Iran's President Mohammad Khatami who has called on the United States "to stop immediately the attacks" on Afghanistan."
Rafsanjani said that Washington was seeking to implement its expansionist policies in the region under the banner of "fighting against terrorism," adding, the U.S.-led attacks have so far failed toachieve any tangible results since they were unleashed on October 7.
"Afghanistan has been under aerial attacks for the past twenty days, but the thing to know is what the Americans have achieved so far?" he asked.
"Neither the European Union, nor the NATO, nor even the Arab countries, or anybody else is willing to accept the U.S. solution in fighting against the Taliban in this manner. Neither is anyone happy with the Taliban militant's behavior, but America has exploited the current situation in the name of a campaign against terrorism," the Iranian official said.
"Checking terrorism cannot be carried out by one or two governments and no power can manage to fight against it single-handedly," Rafsanjani added.
"Terrorism is a global current, the roots, instigators and motivesof which have to be identified and fought according to an international plan," he added.
Rafsanjani said the consequences of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S. will undermine many world issues, adding that these consequences could benefit the world if led in the right direction.
He said the attacks revealed the true nature of terrorism and its potential threat to the world, and said the international community really needed to know the extent of threats that terrorism poses to nations worldwide.
Hashemi Rafsanjani suggested that the United Nations takes the leadership of an international drive to fight terrorism with the cooperation of other countries.
He recalled the international consensus regarding the need to fight terrorism, and said such common sense among world nations must be best utilized to uproot terrorism.
Hashemi lashed out at the recent U.S.-led attacks on Afghanistan, and criticized the Muslim states for their indifference to the developments in Afghanistan.
He recalled the Zionist regime's misusing the present world situation by escalating their aggressions against Palestinians, and rejected the Americans' promises to help establish an autonomous statein the occupied territories as a 'deceitful' political maneuver.
Iran's EC chairman qualified the anticipated that launching a ground operations by the U.S. military forces would be another 'big strategic mistake', and cautioned the Americans of the extremely cathastrophic consequences of resorting to such operations.
Rafsanjani said the attacks currently underway in the war-torn Afghanistan will not root terrorism out, nor they will lead to reliefs to the pains that the Americans have suffered due to the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Rather, he stressed, these attacks will merely end up in numerous social, political and economic consequences in the American society.
The Islamic Republic was swift to condemn the terror attacks, buthas also denounced the U.S.-led strikes on Afghanistan, saying they also targeted civilians.
Iran, instead, has called for an international campaign against terrorism under the leadership of the United Nations.
