Tehran, July 29, IRNA -- European Union (EU) Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana met with Expediency Council (EC) Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani here Monday.
Hashemi-Rafsanjani Referred to Iran's resolve in strengthening ties in all areas with the EU, notably in the economic and trade affairs.
He added that currently Europe garners adequate power to carry-out policies independent of the US, adding "a unilateral world with the US as its center is not acceptable to other nations."
Rafsanjani also referred to the EU policies vis-a-vie the Middle East issue and to atrocities committed by Israel.
"It is expected that the EU will take effective measure against the Israeli crimes in the occupied territories", the head of EC noted.
He also criticized the aggressive US policies in fomenting crisis in the various parts of the world including Iraq. "The US by beating the drums of war threatens world peace," he said.
Solana also alluded to the EU's efforts to boost trade and economic ties with Iran.
The EU has always tried to follow an independent policy regarding the international development, he said.
He further said the EU intends to support Iran's bid to join the Trade Organization (WTO) and "keenly follows economic developments in Iran."
Solana said the recent conference between the EU and the Moslem countries in Istanbul was constructive in forging closer ties between the two sides.
