Bishkek, April 29 - Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said here on Monday that institutionalization and consolidation of democratic ideals by states is the prerequisite to independence and progress. President Khatami, in separate meetings with Kyrgyz speakers of the People's Assembly Altay Borubayev and Legislative Assembly Abdygany Erkebayev said a parliament is the house of a nation and the most outstanding example of its will and determination to succeed. "Free parliaments are the major defenders of independence and the path to progress," he added. Khatami pointed to the importance of promoting the two countries' parliamentary relations within the corridors of their friendship groups and organizations s uch as the inter-parliamentary union. The Iranian chief executive said senior Iranian officials are desirous of boosting ties with Kyrgyzstan and greater cooperation on the part of their parliaments as well as implementation of measures that would boost their governments' bilateral coopera tion. Borubayev and Erkebayev likewise made known their desire for both Iran and Kyrgyzstan to expand their current cooperation. |
