Tehran, Sept 26, IRNA -- Iran's President Mohammad Khatami said on Thursday that regional countries are expected to reinforce solidarity, and called for coordinated efforts to promote peace, independence and development in the Middle East and the entire world.
In a meeting with Abd al-Aziz bin Muhammad ar-Rowas, the special envoy of the Omani King, President Khatami pointed to the prevailing volatile situation in the region, and renewed Iran's opposition to use of force and military action for government change in the region.

He further said that the Iraqi government must accept coexistence with its neighbors, abide by Security Council resolutions and respect international protocols.
Khatami hoped that Iraq and the United Nations would cooperate to prevent tension in the region.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president regretted that the Zionist regime is currently exploiting the US problem with Iraq to intensify its atrocities against the defenseless Palestinian nation.
He also reiterated Iran's commitments to rebuild the war-shattered Afghanistan, and urged the Afghan nation to be vigilant not to be abused by world powers.
Ar-Rowas, for his part, raised the current regional situation, and called on Muslim nations to reinforce unity to promote peace and security in the Middle East.
He said that the idea of dialogue among civilizations will contribute to foster regional and international peace and stability.
