Tehran, May 27, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said here on Monday that baseless accusations by the US against Iran are aimed at misleading public opinion and exerting pressure on European states and Russia.
The accusations were reiterated during President George W. Bush's ongoing four-nation European tour.
Addressing reporters, he said the world community expects Washington to curtail its exports of weapons, especially weapons of mass destruction to Israel, instead of pointing an accusing finger against other countries.
Referring to the widespread demonstrations held in different parts of the world against President Bush's current European trip which includes Germany, Italy, France and Russia, Asefi said such demonstrations demonstrate the failure of White House policies.
The world has showed its opposition to the US' one-sided policies and ambitions of achieving a uni-polar world, he reiterated.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that Washington should follow the language of logic and reason instead of using threats, insults or suppression, he said, and stressed that Iran's constructive measures and sincere cooperation with the international community in the fight against terrorism are fait accompli.
On the current visit to Tehran of UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Asefi said the visit is an offshoot of the Islamic Republic of Iran's detente and confidence-making policies.
"Sheikh Hamdan's talks with senior Iranian officials is proceeding in an atmosphere full of friendship and understanding," he remarked.
The UAE minister arrived in Tehran on Sunday on a two-day state visit.
"At a time when Islamic states are being subjected to growing pressure by the Zionist regime and its allies, Sheikh Hamdan's visit has special significance," the foreign ministry spokesman stressed.
Turning to the simmering Indo-Pakistan dispute, Asefi said the Islamic Republic is following up developments between the two countries closely and welcomes talks between the two sides in a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
He expressed the hope that respected officials of the two countries will be able to defuse the current crisis.
