       Tehran, Oct 7, IRNA -- European Union's (EU) Special Representative in the Afghan Affairs Francesc Vendrell met with Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi here Monday.
       Vendrell lauded Iran's efforts in the Afghan reconstruction drive and expressed hope that other countries that are committed to the cause will also carry out their duties and responsibilities.
       He added that European countries in line with their efforts to forging stability and security in the war-torn country will expedite their efforts.
       Kharrazi referred to Iran's activities pertaining to the Afghan reconstruction and called the situation in that country as "sensitive."
       He alluded to the unsatisfactory trend of the international participation in the reconstruction effort and called for speedier pace in this respect.
       He also referred to the need for establishing a national army and police in Afghanistan.
       Kharrazi said the fight against narcotics cultivation was among the important priorities in the reconstruction plan. He said that the commitment of the regional countries for crop substitute program was a practical plan for Afghanistan economic development.
       Earlier last week, Afghan Ambassador to Tehran Ahmad Mashahed here said that Iran has great capability for reconstruction of the war-torn Afghanistan.
       Referring to the great support given by the Iranian government and nation for the oppressed Afghan nation during the past few years, he expressed hope that his country would make use of Iran's valuable experiences in reconstruction of the war-stricken state.
       National determination in Afghanistan emphasizes on reconstruction and renovation of the country, he said, adding that a good opportunity has been created for other countries to take part in development projects in his country.
       Mashahed termed participation of Afghan neighboring states in that country's reconstruction projects as important and called for active participation of those states in his country's development projects.
