Tehran, Oct 24, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami said on Thursday that double standard towards human rights is injustice adding that the rights of every human being should be respected worldwide no matter where he or she lives.
In a meeting with Togolese Foreign Minister Kaffi Panou, President Khatami said that poverty, discrimination and unilateral policy of the big powers as imposed on nations are examples of violation of human rights which unfortunately are prevailing in international relations.
He said that the tyrannical governments are always known as violators of human rights.
The president said that occupation and making a nation homeless are clear examples of human rights violation.
He said that independence and progress are accessible through cooperation of all nations and governments adding that paying attention to human rights is a good omen so that every individual is entitled to lead a decent life and enjoy prestige and honor.
President Khatami said that Iran is keen on developing relations with the South countries which have the common goals adding that the South nations should boost regional and international cooperation to achieve progress.
He hoped that the world will witness restoration of peace on the basis of justice and the world community would contribute to peace and stability in the African continent.
Panou called for Iran-Togo cooperation within the international organizations including the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
He said that observance of human rights is regarded as a value in the international community which should not be misused by a certain country for certain political goal.
