Tehran, July 23, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Monday rejected as media "fairy tale" a news story which appeared in the New York Times implicating Iran in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish trade center in Buenos Aires.
He said the revival of the "baseless and undocumented" accusation against the Islamic Republic is intended to recreate the scenario once drawn up in the past which has failed to convince world public opinion because of lack of evidence.
"The Zionist circles are trying to revive the issue against Iran in order to mislead the Argentine public in current efforts to identify the perpetrators and masterminds behind the blast against the backdrop of Argentina's chaotic political scene," he said.
The New York Times, in a report in its Monday edition, claimed that the Islamic Republic paid off the former Argentine President Carlos Saul Menem to cover up its role as organizer of the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires.
In related news, Asefi also brushed off reports that the son of the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was in Iran recently.
He rejected as "baseless" the rumor that Saddam Hussein's son,
Qusay, visited Iran recently.
