New York, Sept 21, IRNA -- Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said here on Friday that international problems can only be solved through international cooperation and under UN supervision.
Talking to IRNA before leaving for Tehran, Kharrazi said unilateral measures would not only fail to solve problems but will also further complicate problems.
He called terrorism and extremism as the problems facing mankind in the contemporary world and said these problems are never restricted to any specified geographical boundaries or a particular faith.

"First of all, one should have a correct definition on terrorism and secondly, one should deal with the root causes of extremism," Kharrazi said.
"Definitely, one of the important roots of extremism is injustice, aggression and discrimination as well as disrespect for other cultures and faiths," said Kharrazi.
He said Washington's recent recourse to UN strategy regarding the issue of Iraq could be viewed as a victory for multi-lateralism against unilateralism, saying US move was a token that one can solve problems only through international cooperation.
He stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been trying to play a positive role in settlement of crisis so as to show that the Islamic Republic, as a committed country, can never be indifferent towards rights of nations and expansion of peace and security.
Kharrazi said Iran is ready to continue with its positive and constructive role in cooperation with the United Nations.
Switching to the security strategy advocated by US President George W. Bush, the Iranian foreign minister said despite bearing some new points, the strategy is not on the whole something new.
He said it is in fact adapted from the strategy the US adopted in the post-September 11 era to deal with its problems.
Based on latest reports available, Kharrazi wound up his visit to New York and returned to Tehran on Friday night. He was in New York to attend the 57th UN General Assembly meeting.
Kharrazi had in a speech to the UN General Assembly outlined Iran's stance vis-a-vis such international and regional issues as terrorism, disarmament, Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq.
He had on the sidelines of the UN meeting met and conferred with 40 heads of state, prime ministers and foreign ministers as well as key political and international figures, including the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the Arab League Chief Amr Moussa.
Kharrazi also addressed the meeting of the special committee of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the meeting of senior officials on Afghanistan, the troika meeting of the OIC and the European Union, the special general meeting for collaboration and development in Africa, the OIC Foreign Ministers' meeting, as well as the foreign ministers' meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the G-77 Foreign Ministers' meeting.
He also attended the Asia-Europe meeting and took part in separate interviews with a number of TV channels and networks as well as American newspapers to raise Iran's views.
Meanwhile, Kharrazi and his Uzbek counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov here on Friday stressed joint cooperation for reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Kamilov hailed as "significant" the decisions adopted during President Mohammad Khatami's visit to Tashkent. He said the development and road building projects are the key ones due to be implemented in light of joint cooperation.
Kharrazi for his part said replacement of poppy cultivation is an important project in Afghanistan.
He said drugs is the main source for nutrition of terrorism in Afghanistan, saying that regional states should take measures in that connection.
