       Tehran, Oct 20, IRNA -- Visiting Indian Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal in a meeting with foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi on Sunday expressed satisfaction over the two countries' mutual understanding and common grounds.
       He called for closer economic and diplomatic ties between Iran and India.
       He said New Delhi hoped that with the upcoming visit to New Delhi of President Mohammad Khatami due to take place in January 2003, bilateral cooperation will be further bolstered in various areas.
       Kharrazi thanked the Indian government for a phased withdrawal of its troops from the Kashmir region and expressed hope that the action will lead to improvement of relations between India and Pakistan.
       He said the best way to refrain from creating tension in the region is to start a dialogue between the two countries. 
       Kharrazi also welcomed expansion of economic ties and called for strengthening strategic cooperation between Iran and India.
       Meanwhile, Iran and India here on Sunday stressed security cooperation, especially for energy transit as well as reducing regional crises.
       "Security cooperation between Iran and India in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean, specially for energy transit and regional energy pipelines and reducing crises in the region is very important," said Secretary of Iranian Supreme National Security Council Hassan Rowhani in a meeting with visiting Sibal.
       Rowhani pointed to deep historical and cultural relations between Tehran and New Delhi and called for further consolidation of bilateral, regional and international ties in all areas.
       Underlining the economic and strategic aspects of mutual cooperation in the energy sector, he called for the swift implementation of gas pipeline project between Iran and India.
