       Tehran, July 20, IRNA -- Chairman of Foreign Relations and Human Rights Committee of the European Parliament Elmar Brok, said here Saturday "EU differs With the US in the way it views Iran."
       Speaking at a joint press conference with the Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Affairs Commission Mohsen Mir-Damadi, he added "the EU is an ally of US, but, has differences on various issues with the US."
       The trip by an EU parliamentary delegating to Iran is indicative that "We have differences with the US on relations with other countries" He said.
       Brok also said that Europe believes fighting terrorism should be a consensus among the countries.
       He expressed satisfaction with his trip to Iran and said that his consultations with Iranian officials have been positive and friendly and "will hopefully continue in the future."
       In meeting with Iranian officials "we came to the conclusion that the political system has its own complications and idiosyncrasies and Iranian parliament has a special place within the system."
       He alluded to his presence in Tehran as an initial step in bolstering bilateral ties between EU an Iran. "Our agenda includes review of an agreement on human rights and is necessary to reach a common understanding regarding some of the principles of human rights, the EU official said.
       He was optimistic in reaching such an agreement between the parties "given the developments underway."
       The EU believes that drastic development have taken place in Iranian society, Brok said adding although, the rule of law might not have been implemented in some instances.
       He also alluded to his discussions on human rights with Iranian officials. The issue of Iranian prisons was one of those instances as a human rights issue, which was conducted under completely friendly atmosphere.
He referred to his trip to provincial capital of Shiraz and added that the delegation visited the Iraqi refugees camp and "became cognizant of the fact that Iran has taken many positive steps on the issue of Iraqi and Afghan refugees."
       On MKO terrorist organization, he said that EU is against all terrorist organization in the world and this includes those groups which conduct terror activities against the Iranian people.
       The decision taken within the EU's parliament in banning or imposing limitations on the activities of the MKO is being carried out in the 15 member countries, Brok underlined.
       On Middle East crisis, he added that the EU believes that crimes perpetrated in the West Bank and the Gaza has to be ceased. IT (EU) also believes that any military actions against any group has to be stopped.
       He said EU maintains on Israeli security in any peace negotiations, while it believes in two Palestinian and Israeli independent states."
       The plight of refugees and the manner of ensuring that they are entitled to a prosperous and happy life, "without fearing of Israeli government" are issues that has to be on agenda in any peace negotiations, Brok noted.
       He said that the Palestinian problem is not an issue which could be solely resolved by the US, EU and UN. 
       Meanwhile in a meeting with Brok Thursday President Mohammad Khatami said the West and the world of Islam should start a new phase of dialogue to find ways of better living for themselves and human
beings. 
       He said that under present sensitive conditions dialogue between the two civilizations of East, particularly Islam, and West is extremely important for its impact on future of the world free from any political and economic considerations.
       He said opposition against war and terrorism, defending of spirituality and implementation of justice are the three common points on which the world nations can hold a dialogue.
       He added that the policy makers should prepare necessary grounds for real dialogue among thinkers, philosophers and artists.
       Khatami recalled differences and distinctions among countries on the way of their access to freedom and democracy, and called independence, freedom and progress as the major demands of Iranians.
       He said there is no single way for the establishment of democracy and freedom in a society, stressing that nations can obtain an experience of other forms of democracy by relying on their religious and cultural dictates.
       Khatami added that the experience of moving towards democracy in Iran would be followed on the basis of an Islamic insight, which goes with man's freedom and rights.
       The President said Iranian government and nation would try to pass the way in shorter time with the least expenses.
