Brussels, Nov 19, IRNA -- Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Kamal Kharrazi met the EU Commissioner for trade Pascal Lamy in Brussels Tuesday morning and discussed trade and economic relations between the EU and the Islamic Republic.
Lamy's spokesperson Arancha Gonzalez told IRNA that the discussions focused on three main topics: multilateral trade cooperation, bilateral trade relations and trade irritants between Brussels and Tehran.
The EU, she said, supports the WTO membership of any country, including Iran, that fulfills the conditions of the world trade body's membership.
"For us, WTO accession is not based on political grounds, but on technical conditions," stressed Gonzalez.
Lamy said he is looking forward for the launch of negotiations on a cooperation and trade agreement with Iran in December.
His spokesperson stressed that for the EU, the trade agreement and political dialogue with Iran form a single and inseparable package.
The two sides agreed to continue discussions to solve the long-standing problem of Iran's pistachio exports to the EU, she added.
Kharrazi arrived in Brussels Monday on a two-day visit for talks with the EU leadership to boost Iran-EU political and economic relations.
