United Nations Headquarters, Sept 19, IRNA -- Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, addressing the annual foreign ministerial session of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states in New York on Wednesday, referred to the challenges posed to the sovereign international will by states which issue threats of applying "unilateral policies" to resolve issues of global concern.
Pointing to the international community's glad reception of  Iraq's decision to admit UN weapons inspectors back into the country, he added that the positive development is a product of the global campaign against moves by certain states toward unilateralism and despotism in disregard of UN policies and international laws.

"Since the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has always considered unilateral measures as threats to regional peace and world security, it will spare no effort in opposing and preventing such measures from taking effect."
"Iraq's decision, which underlines the UN capability of tackling the current crisis, should be effected as soon as possible to eliminate any pretext at resorting to military measures and finding suitable grounds for diplomatic meddling," he added.
Kharrazi further underlined Tehran's position that all UN resolutions pertaining to Iraq should be observed in full.
He said: "The immediate return of the weapons inspectors to Iraq without any interference is the next step in the process to enable the international community to extinguish the flames of war."
Referring to the importance of respecting the sovereign law of nations and the need to use multilateral diplomacy to resolve issues of international concern, Kharrazi said that only by observing these principles will the road to peace and stability in the Middle East be paved.
Referring to the Iraqi regime's decision to accept a return of the inspectors, Kharrazi said: "Such a move will, moreover, mark the actual commitment of Iraq's government to peaceful co-existence with its neighbors and will end the pains and worries of the Iraqi people."
In view of the positive development, he said NAM member states should now aim to encourage the Iraqi government to fulfill its other commitments so as to thwart any possible measure which may be contemplated by those extremists in Washington."
