Tehran, May 19, IRNA -- Visiting Azeri President Heydar Aliyev and Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi in a meeting here Sunday discussed ways to diversify Iran-Azeri relations in all fields.
Aliyev described Iran as a significant country in the region, and stressed the need to promote mutual cooperation in various areas.
He recalled the potentials to develop economic bonds, and called for further increasing trade and economic interactions.
The Azeri president said Tehran and Baku have to develop regional and international cooperation, and welcomed making joint development projects operational.
Kharrazi, for his part, stressed Iran's resolve to broaden relations with Azerbaijan, and said any attempt to expand economic and trade cooperation, particularly in the private sector, would be another step forward to the interests of the two countries.
He said the promotion of mutual regional cooperation would pave the ground to better reinforce peace, stability and economic developments of the countries of the region.
The Iranian foreign minister expressed hope that Tehran-Baku agreements on boosting regional and international cooperation would be made operational as soon as possible.
President Aliyev, heading a ranking political-economic delegation, arrived here on Saturday for a three-day official visit for talks on issues of mutual interest.
