Tehran, Nov 18, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Monday said Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi will visit Belgium to discuss regional developments with EU officials, stressing that his visit is in response to the trips by EU officials to the Islamic Republic.
Asefi, speaking at his weekly press conference, said Kharrazi will discuss such issues as the Iraqi crisis, the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime in Palestine, and Iran-EU relations in his talks with EU officials.
Kharrazi arrived in Brussels Monday morning.
He is to meet Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, this morning.
Later he is expected to meet President of the EU Commission Romano Prodi and Commissioner for trade Pascal Lamy.
On Tuesday he is expected to meet EU Commissioner for foreign relations Chris Patten, Belgian foreign minister Louis Michel and President of the Belgian parliament Herman de Croo.
The Iranian foreign minister's visit to the EU capital comes a month before the Islamic Republic and the EU launch negotiations on a cooperation and trade agreement as well as a human rights dialogue in December.
Meanwhile, EU foreign ministers are to begin a 2-day meeting in Brussels Monday.
