United Nations, New York, Sept 17, IRNA -- Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and the EU High Representatives for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, here Monday discussed Iran-EU ties as well as international issues, particularly the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan crises.
During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly's 57 annual session, Kharrazi elaborated on measures taken by the Islamic Republic to negotiate with Islamic and European countries and Russia.
"The region has no capacity for new conflicts and Iraq must continue its efforts to prevent war," he said.

"Iran has harshly rejected any preconditions set by the European Union for expansion of trade ties," he said.
Solana, for his part, lauded Iran's positive role in the region, particularly in Afghanistan, and said the European Union is trying to stop escalation of the Middle East crisis.
He expressed satisfaction over the growing trend of bilateral relation between Iran and the European Union and said the EU has put cooperation with Iran on its next month's agenda.
