Tehran, June 16, IRNA -- Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani here Sunday renewed Iran's commitment to cooperate with the international community on Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and global campaign against producing weapons of mass destruction.
In a meeting with visiting Belarus counterpart Gennady Neviglas, he said the Islamic Republic is abiding by the international campaign against proliferation, testing of nuclear arms, as the most important need to reinforce world peace and stability.
He lashed out at the US for suspending its undertaking (signed by Clinton administration) about Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) adding that the United States is posing a threat to the world by pursuing nuke programs.
Rowhani said the US withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty and the CTBT meant to undermine the global campaign against nuclear weapons which will jeopardize the world peace and stability.
He stressed that international peace would be provided with the help of all nations and under the aegis of the United Nations stressing that US can never lead such global campaign.
Rowhani flayed the US for using September 11 terror attacks as a means to push forward its own policies in the region.
He said the US behavior in the international arena has undermined the UN authority, and cautioned against the consequences of the US imposition of its policies on the world.
Rowhani said the US is planning to establish its influence in Afghanistan, Central Asia, the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus.
He said the presence of foreign troops in the region is detrimental to peace and stability of the region as well as to the interest of states.
Rowhani further called for coordinated efforts by countries of the region to end presence of foreign troops and develop cooperation in securing a long-lasting peace and stability.
He said the failure of the Zionist regime to cooperate with the UN fact-finding mission to investigate massacre of Palestinians in Jenin refugee camp was a token of Washington-Tel Aviv joint efforts to undermine UN role in solving world conflicts.
Rowhani said weapons of mass destruction is dangerous to the world peace, and reiterated that the Zionist arsenal of nuclear weapons has posed threat to regional stability.
He voiced concern about the current developments in the occupied territories of Palestine saying the continued massacre of Palestinians by the Zionist regime threatens peace in the Middle East.
He called on the international community to exert pressure on the Zionist regime to stop its atrocities in Palestine.
The SNSC secretary elsewhere in his remarks described the North-South Transit Corridor as an effective regional and international way to connect Asia with Europe.
Rowhani said the fight against terrorism and the drug trafficking formed the cornerstone of Tehran-Minsk cooperation adding the success of Iran's combat against narcotics effectively changed the situation of drugs in Europe.
Neviglas, for his part, recalled the agreements between Iranian and Belarus officials on mutual cooperation in all fields, and said Minsk is ready to broaden ties with Tehran to promote mutual, regional and international cooperation.
He stressed that any form of cooperation between Iran and Belarus would never threaten a third country.
Neviglas described as ineffective and harmful any military action to fight terrorism, and said an international campaign led by the UN could be the most effective approach to combat the phenomenon.
He further said the history counts that any foreign presence in Afghanistan is doomed to failure, and highlighted Iran's contribution in solving tension in the war-weary country.
Neviglas stressed that any fight against drugs and any effort to replace cultivation of poppy with other crops require cooperation of all nations and international institutes.
The secretary of the Belarussian national security council further recalled the US efforts to expand the domain of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) eastwards and said the international community has to stop the world's development into a unipolarity.
Neviglas said Tehran and Minsk have common views on the issue of weapons of mass destruction, and stressed that Minsk advocates a European community 'free from weapons of mass destruction'.
