Rafsanjani reiterates Iran's neutral position on US threatened war against Iraq

 
 

 

 
 

 
     
          Kermanshah, Oct 14, IRNA -- Expediency Council (EC) Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani stressed here Monday the Islamic Republic's neutral position in case of a US attack on Iraq.
        Upon his arrival in Kermanshah on Monday, Rafsanjani told reporters, "We hope that no war will ever break out in the region, but if it does we will take a neutral position."
        He further stressed the Iranian policy of opposing the presence of US forces in the region, and said it will continue efforts to expel them.
        Rafsanjani, moreover, said that he will attend a congress to commemorate the 20th death anniversary of Martyr Ashrafi Esfahani and will also visit the province's border areas during his two-day visit starting today.
        He said that he will meet closely with local residents and also inspect several projects as well as visit Ghasr-e Shirin and Naft Shahr.
        A number of state ministers and MPs are accompanying Rafsanjani in this trip.
The Supreme Leader's representative in Kermanshah as well as the provincial governor and local officials welcomed Rafsanjani at Kermanshah airport.
