Tehran, Aug 15, IRNA - Iran on Thursday lashed out at the US as National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice accused the Islamic Republic's leaders of 'being on the side of terrorism' as well as 'unelected'.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi denounced the statements as 'interventionist and unrealistic, rising from ruling mentality among a group of American officials'.
Rice's statements and tone indicate America's anger at its rising isolation in the international scene, the Iranian official added.
The US national security advisor on Thursday charged that 'Iran is a place where an unelected few are really crushing the aspirations of their people'.
Asefi said Rice's allegations showed "her unawareness and American officials' inability to know the Iranian people and the country's political system'.
"Trying to create gap in the Iranian rulership and exploiting it is an old-fashioned tactic, doomed to failure," he added.
Asefi also took a swipe at another part of Rice's remarks which said 'Iran is not on the side of peace; Iran is on the side of the terrorist', calling them 'distortion of facts'.
"The unrealistic and dictatorial policies of America do not place that country in a position to judge about others," the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said.
He cited 'America's support for the Israeli state terrorism and its creation of reactionist Taliban group among dark spots of the US foreign policy and contradiction between words and deeds of that country'.
"America is the axis of bullying and promulgation of lies in the international scene, which cannot stop the fall of its standing in world public opinion," Asefi said.
