| Tehran, July 14, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said here on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue pursuing issues pending from the Iraqi imposed war. Speaking to IRNA, he said Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for the Legal and International Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif recently conferred with Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri on the humanitarian as well as other aspects of the issues. Iran attaches importance to the fate of its nationals residing abroad, Asefi underlined. During the meeting between Zarif and Sabri, the two sides reviewed the results of negotiations held between Iranian and Iraqi commissions on prisoners of war and those missing in action as well as exchange of the remains of Iranian and Iraqi soldiers killed during the imposed war, he said. Zarif recently was appointed as Iran's permanent ambassador to the United Nations. The expert committee on exchange of the remains of the two sides' soldiers killed in action met in Baghdad last week. Following the agreements reached during the session, the bodies of 574 Iranians as well as 1,203 Iraqi soldiers are to be exchanged on July 21. |
