Tehran, Nov 13, IRNA -- The Iranian Parliament on Wednesday called on the Swiss-based Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to condemn detention of Palestinian MPs by the Zionist regime and seek their immediate release from prison.
In a letter to IPU Secretary General Anders B. Johnsson, Iranian Inter-Parliamentary Group Secretary General Jalil Sazgarnejad said that the Zionist brutalities have even spilled over to the Parliament of Palestine whose members naturally enjoy immunity just as other parliamentarians worldwide.
It is for long that Mr. Marvan Barghouti, a member of Palestine Legislative Council and Mr Abdorrahim Mallub a member of the Palestine National Council (PNC) as well as Mr Ahmad Sa'dat another member of the PNC who has been threatened to death by the Zionist occupying regime are in the Israeli jails, he said.
"Detention of the MPs who are under the threatening conditions further unveils the terrorist nature of the Zionist regime which considers no respect for the democratic and human rights of parliamentarians," Sazgarnejad said.
"Under which international standards the Israeli regime has arrested the MPs who legally represent the people of Palestine?" asked the Iranian MP.
The Iranian Inter-Parliamentary Group at the same time condemned Israel's non-compliance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions and Israeli violence against the defenseless Palestinians.
"Widespread offensive of the Zionist army on various Palestinian cities and villages have led to the escalation of appalling human tragedy in Jenin, Rafa, al-Khalil and other areas in Palestine. The brutal killings of women and children, demolition of houses, destruction of cultivated lands as well as forceful displacement of Palestinians, are all clear proofs to the fact that the Zionist regime intends to suppress al-Aqsa Intifada no matter at what cost even by perpetrating genocide," the letter said.
No doubt any indifference toward such inhuman acts will embolden the Qods occupying regime to unabatedly continue its brutalities and its typical violation of human rights, Sazgarnejad said in his letter to Mr. Johnsson.
