        Tehran, March 11, IRNA -- Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hojjatoleslam Hassan Rowhani said on Tuesday that Iran-Russia nuclear cooperation is transparent aiming at civilian use
honoring the international conventions.
        In a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, Rowhani said that Iran is responsible for applying nuclear energy for peaceful purposes with observance of the international conventions.
        On the Caspian Sea affairs, Rowhani called for closer cooperation of the five littoral states to formulate the legal regime of the inland sea and said that the five states should expedite their efforts to conclude the legal regime for the Caspian Sea.
        He also called for cooperation between the Iranian and Russian national security councils to foster strategic and security cooperation at regional and international level.
        Rowhani said that all the regional states should cooperate on the international campaign against terrorism adding that Iran extends its full partnership for regional and international campaign against terrorism.
        He said that the good neighborly relations between Iran and Russia have significant impacts on the regional and international diplomacy.  
        Rowhani recalled Iran-Russia peace efforts in Karabakh, Afghanistan, the Caspian Sea states, Central Asian nations and Tajikistan as examples of diplomatic cooperation.
        He called for intensive consultations between Iran and Russia, especially at the current period of Iraqi crisis.
        Rowhani said that Iran has over 1,300 km long border with Iraq and will suffer tens of billions of dollars in damage if the looming war happens. Iran will suffer much more than any neighboring country, he said.
        He expressed concern about the US plan to forge dominance over the energy resources of the region and install a puppet regime in Iraq.
        Such a plan will have dangerous consequences for the region and the entire world, Rowhani pointed out.
        He warned that the US war will cause extensive humanitarian catastrophe.
        On Afghanistan, Rowhani said that the US has failed to establish stability in Afghanistan. Plantation of poppy has increased in the country. Iraqi situation will be worse than Afghanistan if the US wages war, he said.
        Ivanov said that Tehran-Moscow relations is of high importance adding that Moscow is keen on relations with Iran.
        He said that the Friendship Treaty signed by presidents of the two countries has prepared the ground for comprehensive cooperation and called for coordination on regional and regional issues.
        Ivanov said that the two countries should utilize the potentials for economic cooperation. On Iraq crisis, Ivanov said that Russia, France and Germany are opposing the war adding that Russia will never accept any resolution paving the way for war directly or indirectly. Tehran and Moscow have close stance toward Iraq crisis, Ivanov said.
        He said that the US has planned to topple Saddam Hussein at the early stage which will bring repercussions in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East.
        On the Caspian Sea, Ivanov said that the Caspian Sea should be a place for peace and friendship adding that the dispute among the littoral states does not justify interference from external states.
        He said that the international campaign against terrorism is a resolve of the world community and appreciated Iran's contribution to it.
        He said that Iran and Russia have exercised good cooperation on Afghanistan adding that Moscow is ready to proceed with the efforts. Ivanov arrived in Tehran on Monday evening for a three-day visit.
