Khatami calls for tougher actions against drug trafficking

 
 

 

 
 

      Tehran, July 15, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami here on Monday
stressed the need to take tougher actions against drug addiction and smuggling.
      Khatami in a meeting with the new head of the anti-drug headquarters Ali Hashemi called for making use of past experiences, launching cultural activities and finding a suitable solution to the issue of drug smuggling. He also called for public contribution to the anti-drug campaign.
      The president said campaign against drug trafficking needs an international drive.
      The Islamic Republic of Iran has paid heavy prices for its campaign against smuggling and transit of narcotic drugs, said the President.
      On July 7, Khatami assigned Ali Hashemi as secretary of the  anti-drug headquarters to replace Mohammad Fallah.
