Tehran, April 10, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami said on Wednesday that violence cannot be dealt with violence and the international atmosphere should not be pushed to the brink of war.
In a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen, President Khatami pointed to the encouraging international response to Dialogue of Civilizations and said that dialogue will be possible if a peaceful view prevails over the world to end discrimination and global hegemony.
He said that human conscience necessitates all the nations to help stop Israeli massacre of oppressed Palestinians.
President Khatami said that the European Union (EU) has adopted a logical stance toward the events in the Middle East, but, that's not enough in the face of the extensive Israeli aggression.
The international community should come to the help of the Palestinians and meditate a solution for the oppressed nation of Palestine and a sustainable peace which would be possible by taking into account the rights of the Palestinian refugees, President Khatami said.
On Tehran-Oslo ties, the president said Iran and Norway have large capacity to develop cooperation and hoped that the visit of Norwegian foreign minister would help boost bilateral relations.
He said that the Iranian nation and government are determined to develop relations with all states on the basis of mutual respect and in line with national interests.
The president said that the Islamic Republic of Iran will proceed with comprehensive development plans and democratic process in line with national preferences.
Petersen said that a new chapter has opened in relations between Iran and Norway adding that the two countries have satisfactory economic cooperation. He called for reinforcing Tehran-Oslo relations on the other areas.
He briefed the president on Norway's stance toward events in the Middle East and said that Oslo supports the Middle East peace process.
Petersen called for holding dialogue among different countries to help resolve bilateral and international differences.
