Tehran, June 10, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami here on Monday underlined the need for preparing a safe and sound atmosphere for making investment in different areas.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of second line of Tehran-Mashhad railroad, he stressed that managers should be given opportunities to do great jobs.
Preparing a secure and safe atmosphere for participation of all managers and skilled manpower in different affairs will help settle the existing problems, he added.
He further referred to skillful and specialized manpower as main assets of the society and stressed the need for making use of modern technology in different affairs.
Elsewhere in his speech, President Khatami lauded the great efforts made by managers, engineers and workers in expansion and promotion of the country's railroad network.
Railway is the safest, most economical and most appropriate means of transportation from the viewpoint of environment in today's world, he said stressing that the government, due to the country's geopolitical situation, has given priority to expansion of railroad network.
Iran has linked the Central Asia to the Caucasus and Europe on the one hand, and has connected them to the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman on the other, he said adding the country is a route linking southern seas and Europe.
Such a situation is unique in the world, he said calling for making use of the country's entire transit potentials in a right way.
Referring to efforts made during the past two decades to promote the country's railroad network, President Khatami said the strategic Bandar Abbas-Sarakhs railroad will become operational in the next two years. The railroad will link Central Asia and the Persian Gulf and the Omani Sea, he added.
Meanwhile, Minister of Road and Transportation Ahmad Khorram briefed the president on the performance of his ministry during the past few years.
Some 2,843 km of railroad has been constructed since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, out of which 1,260 km were constructed during President Khatami's tenure, he added.
He further announced that construction of 980-km Bafq-Mashhad railroad is one of the major projects of his ministry which will become operational in the next two years.
After the end of the ceremony, President Khatami attended the central railway station in southern Tehran and talked with a number of passengers.
