Asefi announces Measures Taken by Iran on Palestinian Crisis |

Addressing domestic and foreign reporters on Monday, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Dr. Hamidreza Assefi elaborated on efforts made by Iran on the Palestinian crisis. Referring to the serious situation in Palestine Dr. Assefi said, "The atrocities committed by the Zionist regime against the Palestinians in recent weeks have stirred widespread outrage across the world, adding, Muslim and European countries have strongly criticized the Israeli regime for its crimes and called for bringing a halt to the violence against the Palestians and putting an end to the unsparing US support fot the Israeli regime. He said, "With the escalation of the crisis, Iran increased its efforts in a bid to stop the oppression against the Palestinians and called for taking immediate and practical measures to end pressures on the Palestinian people." Dr. Assefi added, "In addition to the decisive position taken by the sureme leader in support of Palestinians, President Khatami, in contacts with his Syrian counterpart as well as Spanish prime minister underlined the need for paying more attention to the issue of Palestine and supporting the defenseless Palestinian nation." He pointed out, "During his recent visit to Malaysia, Iranian foreign minister Dr. Kamal Kharrazi said Muslim countries' firm resolution and strong stance play an important and deciding role in putting an end to the oppression of Palestinians, adding, "While in Moscow Dr.Kharrazi discussed the Middle East crisis with senior Russian officials." Dr. Assefi said, "The occupying regime of Israel is the root cause of crisis and tension in the region and the US support and partiality towards this regime has given rise to the current situation in Palestine." During this sensitive period of time, the only effective solution to the continuing massacre and suppression of Palestinians and exacerbation of the crisis is to cut any kind of relations with the Israeli regime by Islamic states in particular, he said. While voicing regret over what he said is the deadly silence of international circles in the face of Zionist savage aggression against Palestinians in the occupied territories Dr. Assefi said, "The only way to bring a lasting peace to the Middle East is to fully restore the rights of Palestinians, adding, imposition of any viewpoints, resorting to political and military tools and ignoring the root causes of the crisis will lead to continuation and escalation of tension in the region." |
