Tehran, Oct 7, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi Monday said that British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw will visit Tehran mainly to hold talks on regional issues, adding that he does not know if Straw would be carrying a message from any particular country for Iran. Straw is expected in Tehran this week.
Asefi, speaking at his weekly press conference, said Straw's Iran visit would be at a "very sensitive juncture," adding that the Islamic Republic will inform the British secretary that it opposes any military action to effect a regime change in Baghdad.
"We have suffered so much damage inflicted by the Iraqi regime but at the same time have neither forgotten the US animosities against us," he said.
"We have `very special' conditions (on the US threat) but are opposed to any unilateral attack for any regime change anywhere."
Asefi further said that the Islamic Republic will tell Straw that the excessive attention being heaped by the international community on the issue of Iraq is overshadowing developments in Palestine and encouraging the Zionist regime to commit more atrocities.
He blamed the US for its failure to take action on recent developments in the occupied territories, particularly in central Gaza, pointing to the mounting Zionist atrocities as well as the harsh measures taken by the Zionist armed forces against Palestinians.
The foreign ministry spokesman further said Iran will take up with Straw the insults heaped recently by certain Western groups on Islam.
