Tehran, Oct 7, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said here Monday the genocide by Israel in the Occupied Lands is a direct outcome of the US unilateral support for the Zionist regime of Israel.
Asefi condemned the Israeli killing of 10 defenseless Palestinians in Khan Yunis where some 70 Palestinians were also wounded as a result of the assaults of the Zionist forces against their living areas.
He said the attacks launched on the Palestinians residential areas by the Israeli helicopters are a flagrant violation of the human rights.
He added Israeli officials are thumbing their noses at the world and the internationally accepted rules and norms and called on the United Nations to adopt measures to end the inhuman actions of the Zionists in Palestine.
The Palestinians were killed Monday after dozens of Israeli tanks backed by helicopters invaded the Gaza Strip, hampering efforts by EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana to ease the two-year conflict in meetings with leaders from both sides.
Bloody Israeli forays have increased in the Gaza Strip, stronghold of the Islamic Hamas movement, since Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon secured almost total control of the West Bank, invaded in June after a spate of suicide bombings.
Israeli tanks stormed into Khan Yunis with their cannons and machine-guns blazing at around 1:00 am Monday (2300 GMT Sunday), while accompanying helicopter gunships fired missiles and machine-guns.
Israeli public radio said that bulldozers took part in the operation which included 40 tanks.
Sharon said recently he would hit Islamic groups based in the Gaza Strip, a densely populated region sealed off from the world and where Hamas and Islamic Jihad have their strongholds.
