| Tehran, Oct 7, IRNA -- The Islamic Republic is opposed to any US unilateral attack on Iraq, and will never join an attack on any Muslim and neighboring state. Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi Monday added that even though Iran will accept any Security Council resolution as a 'fact' it will never join an attack on Iraq. Asefi pointed to the upcoming visit by British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw to Iran, and said the Islamic Republic will inform Straw that it opposes any military action for a regime change in Baghdad. "The Islamic Republic will tell the British foreign secretary that an excessive attention on the issue of Iraq has increased the atrocities by the Zionist regime," he said. Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said Straw will visit Tehran mainly for talks on regional developments, adding that he does not know if the British foreign secretary will be carrying a message from any particular country for Iran. |
