Tehran, August 7, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami said here on Wednesday that expansion of relations with countries of the south, African countries in particular, has been given priority in Iran's foreign policy.
The Press and News Department at Presidential Office quoted President Khatami as telling Zimbabwean Foreign Minister I. Stanislaus Gorerazvo Mudenge that planning for all-out development is the call of both Iranian and Zimbabwean nations.
Khatami expressed satisfaction with the third session of Tehran-Harare Joint Economic Commission and stressed implementation of the formerly reached agreements, using present capacities.
He rejected foreign interference in other countries' internal affairs and said, "Our nations are mature enough to distinguish their interests, and decide on mutual cooperating based on mutual respect."
He congratulated Mugabe for re-election as president of Zimbabwe.
Mudenge for his part called for promotion of scientific and engineering cooperation between Iran and Zimbabwe and using Iran's expertise in the field of agriculture.
He said mutual cooperation in the fields of economy and trade would guarantee mutual interests.
