President: creating unipolar world is mere illusion |

Tehran, May 7, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami said on Tuesday that creating unipolar world is a mere illusion and called on the world nations to come together to confront hegemony in the global level. In a meeting with Yugoslav Minister of National and Ethnic Communities Rasim Ljajic, President Khatami said that Yugoslavia has been the founding member of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) adding that the war in Yugoslavia caused hefty human losses in the country. He said that the United States has made attempts to impose its hegemony over the world with bringing about so-called unipolar world which is a mere illusion adding that the world nations especially the NAM member states are eagerly thinking about their independence more than any other time. He said that all capacity should be explored to develop Tehran-Belgrade relations thanks to the geographical, economic and social specifications of the two countries. Iran and Yugoslavia would cooperate within the international organizations, President Khatami said. He expressed pleasure with presence of a Muslim celebrity from Yugoslavia in Iran and said that religion is symbol of grace of God and called for holding dialogue of religions and ethnic minorities in Yugoslavia to foster co-existence and respect each other. The president hoped that the nations in the Balkans would help find logical and humanitarian solutions to the crises in the area and would resolve the Kosovo crisis. President Khatami pointed to the situation in the Middle East and the necessity of campaign against any forms of terrorism and called on the international community to deal with war criminals of the Zionist regime as per being done against the war criminals of the Balkans. Ljajic conveyed greetings of Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica to President Khatami and said that Yugoslav officials are keen to develop relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields. He said that Yugoslavia supports peace in the Middle East and also supports the Islamic States demand to repatriate the Palestinian refugees in their home country. The Yugoslav minister said that there exists wide-scale capacity to develop economic cooperation and called for joint investment and boosting trade between the two countries. He said that Yugoslavia supports holding dialogue of civilizations. |
