Tehran, Nov 5, IRNA -- Visiting Afghan Education Minister Yunis Qanooni conferred here on Tuesday with President Mohammad Khatami on issues of mutual interests.
At the meeting, President Khatami called for strengthening of Afghanistan's Interim government and putting an end to ethnic and factional differences in order to expedite the reconstruction and development of the war-shattered country.
"We should try to encourage all Afghan groups to put aside their disputes for the sake of their motherland," Qanooni said.
"After years of hardships, we hope to witness stability and development in Afghanistan," he said.
Referring to trilateral meeting between heads of sate of Iran, Tajikisan and Afghanistan on the sidelines of ECO summit in Istanbul, Khatami said construction of the strategic road linking Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan will be of great importance to both Afghanistan and the region.
Highlighting lack of educational facilities for those living in remote areas in Afghanistan, Khatami underlined that in order to see a stable Afghanistan all Afghan groups should contribute to the reconstruct of the country particularly its educational sector.
Khatami also voiced Iran's readiness to help promote the level of educational standards in Afghanistan.
Conveying the warmest greetings of the Afghan Head of Interim government Hamed Karzai to President Mohammad Khatami, Qanooni lauded the significant role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in restoring peace and stability to Afghanistan.
New Afghan generations have been inspired by the thoughts of the Iranian president so much so that they will never change peace and stability for anything else, Qanooni said.
"We should try to encourage all Afghan groups to put aside their disputes for the sake of their motherland," Qanooni said.
Qanooni called for expansion of educational cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan.
