Brussels, July 8, IRNA -- The Islamic Republic of Iran and the European Union are expected to begin negotiations on signing a cooperation and trade agreement most probably in September.
Sources in the current Danish EU Presidency told IRNA by phone from Copenhagen Monday that discussions were taking place to hold the negotiations in September, and if no suitable date was found, in October.
The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a meeting between the EU Troika and Iran will be held in Tehran before the beginning of the trade agreement negotiations.
On July 1, Denmark assumed the six-month EU rotating Presidency.
On June 17, EU foreign ministers at their meeting in Luxembourg agreed to give the European Commission the mandate for talks to begin with the Islamic Republic for a trade and cooperation agreement.
The signing of the agreement would boost and expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Iran and the 15-member European bloc.
