| Tehran, Sept 4, IRNA - The three islands of Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Mousa in the Persian Gulf are integral part of the Islamic Republic of Iran and will always remain Iranian, declared Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here on Wednesday. Asefi in a statement, issued in reaction to the final declaration of the 84th meeting of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC), deplored the repetition of the 'futile and groundless' claims on Iranian islands by the PGCC despite 'eye-catching' progress in relations between Iran and states of the region, the UAE in particular. Asefi welcomed the recent 'positive' developments in relations between Tehran and regional states and stressed the need for further expansion of relations and cooperation. Foreign ministers of the six PGCC states in a statement, issued at the end of their two-day meeting in Jeddah on Tuesday, welcomed expansion of relations with Iran. The PGCC statement had said the visit by Bahraini King Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa al-Khalifa to Iran was a turning point in consolidating and promoting relations between the Arab states in the south of the Persian Gulf and Iran. Asefi said further exchange of visits and consultations between Iranian and regional states' officials would be an effective in consolidating peace, stability and security in the Persian Gulf. |
