Tehran, Feb 3, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said here Monday that his impending visit to London is taking place at a sensitive time when "we are witnessing critical developments in the region."
Speaking at a joint press conference with the visiting EU External Relations Commissioner, Chris Patten, Kharrazi said in his trips to Tehran, his British counterpart Jack Straw had invited him to pay a visit to London. The trip is in response to the invitations, he said.
"Iran is continuing its talks with various countries, both those willing to use force against Iraq and those who are after finding peaceful mechanisms in this respect," he said.
As an important country playing a pivotal role in the region, Iran can play an effective part in this respect, said Kharrazi adding, "Of course Iran is after securing and attaining its own interests in the
face of regional issues."
Meanwhile, Iran's Ambassador to London Morteza Sarmadi said Kharrazi is expected in London on Wednesday on an official visit.
It will be in response to the recent visit to Tehran of the British foreign secretary, Sarmadi added.
Latest developments in the region, the Iraqi crisis, key international issues and Tehran-London ties will cover Kharrazi's talks with British officials, he said.
