Algiers, Oct 3, IRNA -- Visiting Iranian Parliament Speaker Hojatoleslam Mehdi Karroubi met and conferred with Algerian Senate (Ummah) Speaker, Abdul Qader bin Salih, here on Wednesday night.
Karroubi during the meeting expressed delight over the rapidly improving Tehran-Algiers relations, adding, "the parliaments of Iran and Algeria have played a decisive role in strengthening bilateral ties."
The Iranian MP expressed hope that the parliaments of the two countries would succeed in taking long strides in securing their own nations' interests, based on the rules of democracy and Islam.
He said that all Iranian authorities' stands towards Algeria are aimed at expansion of comprehensive ties in all possible fields.
Turning to Palestine issue, the Iranian parliament speaker said, "we back up the moves supported by the Palestinian nation, since their motherland is occupied, and we also support all national liberation movements, wherever they might be."
Karroubi said that Iran's proposal for the Palestinian crisis, which has been put forward by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei, is based on arranging for a national referendum in which all Palestinians, including Muslims, Judaists, and Christians would take part and choose the type of their future ideal political system.
Condemning terrorism of all types, Karroubi said, "The United States of America is a power maniac that in the name of fighting against terrorism, aims to take revenge from certain countries that are not aligned with."
He added, "America unilaterally supports Israeli Prime Minister (Ariel) Sharon, and not only never condemns his atrocious crimes, but also awards him as the man of the year for peace efforts. But history has traditionally proved that the tyrannical regimes do not last long.
The parliament speaker said, "we believe the best way for safeguarding the global peace and stability is promoting dialogue among civilizations and believers of various faiths, and the Islamic Republic of Iran is the pioneer in that field.'
He further emphasized that in the process of globalization, it is of utmost importance to preserve the different identities and cultures, and in doing so the Islamic world shoulders a heavy responsibility.
The Algerian Senate speaker, too, said during the meeting that the foundation stone for restoration of comprehensive ties after a relatively long pause was laid jointly by the presidents of the two countries three years ago. "From then on, the parliaments and ambassadors of the two countries have played decisive roles in improvement of ties," added bin Salih.
He added, "the developments referred to in general as the globalization trend have created serious concerns within the Islamic world."
The Algerian Ummah Speaker added, "unfortunately the multilateral world is moving toward unilateralization, which calls for multilateral cooperation aimed at preserving the global peace and stability."
Turning to the issue of terrorism, he said, "this ill-natured phenomenon is not only a threat against various nations, but also a big threat against the whole world."
Turning to the Iraq crisis, bin Salih said, "we are opposed to the interference of big powers in order to change political systems, since if that becomes a rule, the global peace and security would be easily at stake."
Karroubi had earlier on Tuesday evening met and conferred with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on possible avenues to further boost mutual ties in all areas.
Parliament Speaker Mehdi Karroubi had on Tuesday morning left the Yemeni capital, San'a, for Algiers to "expand and strengthen specially parliamentary ties" between Iran and Algeria.
The Iranian parliament speaker arrived in Algiers on Tuesday evening at the head of a high-ranking political and parliamentary delegation on the second leg of a three-nation tour to Yemen, Algeria and Sudan.
Karroubi was welcomed here by Algerian Chairman of the National People's Assembly (APN) Karim Younes.
