Tehran, July 31, IRNA -- Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani said on Wednesday that presence of external forces in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East has caused instability in the region.
In a meeting with Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulla al-Kurbi, Rowhani said that the regional states themselves should foster cooperation to restore peace and security in the region. Cooperation between Iran and the Arab states would be effective in this respect, he said.
Rowhani said that Iran seeks the Middle East to be free from weapons of mass destruction adding that the international campaign against weapons of mass destruction is very effective parameter in global peace and security.
He said that the western states are pursuing domination over the region which is the root cause of the regional dilemma adding that the Middle East is a sensitive region with enormous natural resources so that the western states are seeking their colonialist goals under new slogans.
He said that the rich Islamic culture and the Islamic solidarity are the two pillars of the Muslim world to defend their interests adding that in the past few decades, the enemies have targeted the two pillars. Therefore, the Muslim world should exercise vigilance to thwart the conspiracies.
"The post-September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States has led the world situation to conform to the interests of the US and the Zionist regime which are following interventionist goals under the pretext of international campaign against terrorism," he said.
On Iraq, he hoped that no military action would be taken on Iraq, adding that the Islamic states, observing solidarity, would object to any US action against Iraq.
He regretted that certain Islamic states are opposing any military action on Iraq, but, in practice, they offer a base to the US to attack Iraq. It's a shame, he said.
Rowhani said that the Zionist regime's nuclear and weapons of mass destruction capability have doubled in the past single decade adding that the Islamic states should thwart the threats posed by the Zionist regime and the US intervention.
He said that repatriation of Palestinian refugees to their homeland and putting an end to the Zionist occupation of Palestine are the two requirements for peace and security in the Middle East adding that any peace plan without the two will not work.
Al-Kurbi said that Iran and Yemen have longstanding relations dating back to even pre-Islam era adding that Iran has special status in the region and Yemen us willing to develop relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields.
He condemned any possible attack against Iraq and said that Iran and Yemen, as two Muslim nations should embark on diplomatic initiatives within the Islamic nations to down play possibility of any US attack on Iraq.
The Yemeni foreign minister said that the United States and the western nations have targeted Islam in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
He said Iran and Yemen hold the same view on the settlement of crisis in Palestine adding that what the US and the Zionist regime are doing has helped unite the Islamic states in support of the Palestinian Intifada.
Iran and Yemen regard the resistance of Palestinian people to Zionist occupation as their legitimate right, al-Kurbi said.
The Yemeni foreign minister said that the Zionist regime is a thorn in the heart of Islam and that of the Arabs which has posed threat to the security of the Middle east.
Al-Kurbi said that the Zionist regime possesses weapons of mass destruction which is enough to destroy the entire Middle East, but, the US is accusing Iran of making efforts to acquire weapons of mass destruction. While Iran has no nuclear arms, he said.
He called for holding dialogue of civilizations among Islamic states.
