The bill which was approved with 179 yes votes, 4 oppositions and 11 abstentions gives a two-week deadline to the government to downgrade Tehran´s relations with London.
The 4 oppositions demanded a full cut of ties with London.
"I appreciate the well-appraised and revolutionary move of the Majlis (parliament) in downgrading relations with Britain," Larijani said.
"The British government should know that the Islamic Consultative Assembly is monitoring them and this is just the beginning," he added.
Now the new law requires the Iranian government to lower Tehran´s relations with London from ambassadorial level to that of charge d´affaires, meaning that Britain´s new ambassador to Tehran Dominic Chilcott will be expelled in coming weeks.
Chilcott took his post as the new Tehran ambassador in late October after several months of tension between the two capitals. The British embassy was meanwhile led by the charge d´affaires, Jane Marriott.
The lawmakers had on Wednesday approved the double-urgency of the bill in order for it to outpace the other agendas of the legislature.
End.
