´US claims aim to create Iran-Saudi rift´

President Ahmadinejad made the remarks in an interview with the Al Jazeera television network on Monday night, the website of the president´s office reported.

“Creating conflicts in relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia in order to dominate the region and diverting attention from the United States´ internal problems are the most important objectives of this baseless allegation against the Iranian nation, but experience shows that such measures never bear fruit for US officials, and the truth will eventually be known by all nations,” the Iranian president said.

Ahmadinejad denied the allegations that Iran was involved in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington, saying that the United States has pointed the finger at Iran to divert attention from the ongoing protests in the country.

"The economic problems of the US are very serious, and accusing Iran is not going to solve any problem," he added.

In reply to a question about Iran´s reaction to the United States´ move to refer the allegations to the United Nations Security Council, Ahmadinejad said, “The Security Council is dominated by the United States, and the US government has been against the Iranian nation for the past 30 years.”

All the decisions in the UN are made by a body which only has five members, and this clearly indicates that the UN is “undemocratic and unjust,” he noted.

Earlier in the day, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he had passed correspondence about US suspicions of Iranian involvement in the alleged plot to the Security Council.

The Iranian president also stated that Washington has accused Iran of involvement in the terrorist plot in order to provide a pretext to strengthen the international sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic.

On October 11, the US Justice Department accused Iran of plotting to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir, with help from a man suspected of being a member of a Mexican drug cartel.

Tehran says the media hype created by Washington is an attempt to deflect attention from the anti-corruption and anti-corporatism protests currently rocking the country.

Iran´s envoy to the UN, Mohammad Khazaei, has filed a complaint against the US for what he called the “evil plot.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has described the US accusation as an immature scenario and says US officials will ultimately be forced to apologize.

End.
