In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, the Iranian envoy, Mohammad Khazaei, equaled the allegation with an instance of politically-motivated ´warmongering´ by the United States, IRNA reported.
The complaint followed the US Justice Department´s claim that Iran had been involved in a plot to assassinate the Saudi official, Adel Al-Jubeir, with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.
"The Iranian nation seeks a world free from terrorism and considers the current US warmongering and propaganda machine [working] against Iran as a threat not just against Iran but to the peace and stability in the Persian Gulf region," read part of the letter.
Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, rejected the accusation, saying such ´ludicrous´ claims hinged on the hostile joint stances adopted by the US and Israel against the country.
"These threadbare attitudes, which are based on the age-old and hostile American-Zionist policies, are a ridiculous show in line with certain [instances of] scenario fabrication of divisive ends on the part of the enemies of Islam and the region," he said.
He also condemned all acts of terrorism, adding that Washington was employing the legerdemain to divert attention from the growing domestic protests it was facing.
