Iran´s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says the 2001 Durban Declaration of Action is one of the richest accomplishments of the world against racism and racial discrimination.
“The international conference held in 2001 against racism, xenophobia, and intolerance … was a turning point in the human rights of the world of today,” IRNA quoted Salehi as saying on Sunday.
Salehi made the comments during a General Assembly high-level meeting held to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Program of Action.
He outlined the international committee´s resolution to distance itself from Apartheid, the unified front of non-governmental organizations and governments against the violation of human rights, and the active cooperation of governments against racism as the prominent features of the conference.
The Iranian foreign minister expressed regret that some country´s that “are the so-called advocates of human rights and democracy” have strived to weaken the participation level of this conference or even boycott it.
End.
