More UK-Gaddafi spying ties exposed

A member of Libya´s Democratic Party residing in London has revealed further details on ties between British intelligence agencies and the despotic regime of Muammar Gaddafi, Press TV reports.

Sabri Malik said that agents from the British MI5 and MI6 spy institutions went to the residence of the co-founder of the party in the Libyan capital of Tripoli and recorded every detail about his life and then passed the information over to Gaddafi´s intelligence network.

Malik criticized the British government for the “scandal,” insisting that the issue must be investigated in the parliament.

“We came to Britain as political refugees and expected Britain to be a safe haven for us but what was incredibly happening was that the British intelligence was sending reports about us to Gaddafi. This is scandalous,” Malik said.

Embarrassing ties between the Gaddafi regime and Western intelligence agencies came to the international spotlight on Saturday, when Human Rights Watch announced that it has gained access to letters at the offices of Libya´s former intelligence chief and Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa that point to such ties.

“Dear Moussa,” as he was addressed in the letters, defected from the Gaddafi regime after the uprising and sought refuge in England.

“It is the job of Libyan judiciary now to issue an arrest warrant for Koussa, an international terrorist,” Malik added.

The member of the Libyan Democratic Party also emphasized that Gaddafi, who had access to “300 billion dollars,” used the funds as hush-money to manipulate Western governments by committing crimes and getting away with them.

“We have evidence in Tripoli of deal talks between Gaddafi and the Scottish government about releasing the terrorist Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi. It was money which brought injustice,” Malik stated.

Megrahi is the only man convicted of involvement in the December 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103, which killed 270 people, mostly Americans, when it exploded over the Scottish town of Lockerbie.

The newly obtained secret files also show that Gaddafi warned of “dire consequences” in ties between Britain and Libya if Megrabi was not set free from a Scottish jail.

End.
