Press TV: London the capital of the UK witnessed a third night of violence on Monday night, as Prime Minister David Cameron was holidaying in Italy.
Protesters hurled missiles at police, who came out with tripled force but failed to control angry youths who surrounded police vans, looted lorries and targeted shops in a series of fresh attacks across London.
Scotland Yard introduced reinforced powers to Hackney as a mob of hooded youths began hurling missiles at the officers.
Sporadic violence was developing in nearby Dalston where shops and businesses were attacked and youths clashed with police and set fire to cars outside Lewisham Town Hall.
Shops closed early in Peckham, Stratford and Islington and barriers were erected outside Westfield Shopping Centre, as other areas of London braced for more violence.
Retailers in Tottenham Hale, Enfield and Waltham Forest, as well as Brixton in south London, have been the victims of theft and public disorder, with major names such as Currys, Halfords and Tesco being targeted.
More than 30 youths have vandalised shops in Walthamstow and Waltham Forest, while a Tesco store in Ponders End has been attacked and looted.
South of the city, Brixton´s Halfords and Morley´s department store have been damaged, and Brixton tube station was closed as a result of the unrest.
Violence spread throughout London, initially in response to the death of Mark Duggan, who was allegedly shot dead by police last week.
Police said they have arrested almost 260 people since the violence began in Tottenham on Saturday night.
