UK condemns Israeli settlement plan
The British Foreign Office has condemned Israel´s plan to build 930 new housing units in the illegal settlement of Har Homa in the southern East al-Quds (Jerusalem).
“I condemn yesterday´s announcement by the Government of Israel to approve the construction of over 900 housing units which will expand significantly the illegal Settlement of Har Homa in East [al=Quds] Jerusalem,” British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East Alistair Burt said in a statement on Friday.
“Unilateral actions such as this undermine international efforts to build lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians and make the two-state solution harder to achieve,” he further said.
In his statement, Burt referred to Israel as London´s friend saying “at a time when Israel´s friends are working to restart negotiations, this decision is deeply concerning”.
Tel Aviv occupied East al-Quds (Jerusalem) alongside the other Palestinian land of the West Bank in 1967 and later annexed both territories. The international community has refused to recognize either of the moves.
In November 2009, Israel put a 10-month halt on its settlement activities, but refused to renew the partial moratorium.
