Gazprom may involve foreigners in Shtokman development

Russia-Gazprom
Gazprom may involve foreign companies in the development of the Shtokman gas field and the construction of a liquefied natural gas plant while retaining control over the deposit, President Vladimir Putin told a Tuesday press conference following negotiations with Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"Gazprom has analyzed the proposals of foreign investors," he said, adding that the exchange of assets was the most interesting bid.

"None of the foreign investors has offered assets, which would meet the Shtokman project scale," he said.

Therefore, Gazprom has decided to develop the field and remain the proprietor," Putin said.

"However, I do not rule out that Gazprom may involve foreign companies in the field development and the production of liquefied natural gas."
