One of the world’s newest medications reducing blood cholesterol has been made in Iran for the first time.

The tablet, called Ezetichol (Ezetimibe), is a product based on the research of Iranian experts. It is produced and distributed on the market by Osvah Pharmaceutical Co.

Supervisor of Ezetichol Research and Production Group Dr. Abbas Kebriyaiezadeh attended a press conference on Tuesday to introduce the tablet.

"Ezetichol is a medication reducing blood cholesterol. It inhibits absorption of cholesterol by small intestine. Ezetichol localizes and appears to act at the brush border of small intestine.

"It inhibits absorption of cholesterol, which reduces delivery of intestinal cholesterol to liver," he added.

Dr. Kebriyaiezadeh said that this type of tablet is considered as a third-grade medication in the US, adding that it leaves no major side effects.

He noted that Osvah Pharmaceutical Co. will soon introduce more products to the market, adding that the production of a new medicine healing diabetes will start in a couple of weeks.

The official promised genetic patients that a new product will be presented to the market by the end of the current Iranian year (on March 20).
